ඉංග්‍රීසි භාෂාවේ තියෙන සුවිශේෂී ලක්ෂණයක් තමයි, බොහෝ වචන කිසිම වෙනසක් නැතුව Noun (නාම පදය) එකක් හැටියටත්, Verb (ක්‍රියා පදය) එකක් හැටියටත් වාක්‍යයේ භාවිතා කරන්න පුළුවන් වීම.
උදාහරණයක් බලමු — rain කියන වචනය. The rain stopped කියද්දී rain කියන්නේ Noun එකක් (වර්ෂාව). ඒත් It's raining කියද්දී ඒම වචනයම Verb එකක් (වහිනවා). අකුරු වෙනස් වෙන්නේ නැහැ — වාක්‍යයේ ඒ වචනය කොහෙද තියෙන්නේ කියන එක අනුවයි, ඒක Noun ද Verb ද කියලා තීරණය වෙන්නේ.
ඉංග්‍රීසි Grammar වලදී මේකට කියන්නේ conversion (හෝ zero derivation) කියලා. ඉංග්‍රීසියේ මේ රටාව ඉතාම සුලභයි. සිංහලේත් වචනවල ක්‍රියාකාරී භාවිතය සමහරවිට වෙනස් විය හැකි නමුත්, ඉංග්‍රීසියේ මෙය විශේෂයෙන්ම බහුල හා ස්ථිර රටාවක්.
